Diwali beauty prep checklist
a simple countdown for the festive week
What to book and when, from two weeks out to the morning of Lakshmi Puja, all at home in North Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday, 8 November (Lakshmi Puja), with Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November and the Gujarati New Year on Monday, 9 November. Here is a simple countdown so your skin, hair and nails are ready for the whole festive week, without a last-minute rush.
2 to 3 weeks before (by 20 October)
- Fix your dates early. Home-visit slots in the days just before Dhanteras are limited, so book as soon as you know your plans.
- Hair spa now. A hair spa two or three weeks ahead gives dry, frizzy hair time to soften. Repeat closer to Diwali if you like.
- Keep skincare simple. Cleanse, moisturise and use sunscreen every day. This is not the time to try a brand-new product on your face.
About a week before (1 to 3 November)
- Hair colour or mehndi. A colour touch-up or hair mehndi a week ahead lets the shade settle and look natural.
2 to 3 days before (4 to 6 November)
- Clean-up or facial. Two to three days before Lakshmi Puja is ideal: any redness has settled and your skin looks fresh on the day. See clean-ups and facials at home.
- Waxing. Wax one to three days before you wear your festive outfits, so any redness has gone. Read our waxing guide for simple prep and aftercare.
- Threading. Eyebrows, upper lip and forehead one to three days before.
- Manicure and pedicure. One or two days before Dhanteras, so nails are neat for the puja and the photos. See manicure and pedicure at home.
On the day
- Gentle cleanser and moisturiser, plus sunscreen if you will be outdoors. Skip scrubs and peel-off masks.
- Drink plenty of water between sweets and late nights.
- Keep blotting paper and lip balm in your bag for long evenings.
After the festivities
Smoke, late nights and rich food can leave skin looking tired. A relaxing clean-up and a head or back massage about a week after Bhai Dooj (10 November) is a lovely way to reset.
