Winter skin care
for dry Ahmedabad winters
Simple daily habits for dry winter skin, lips, hands and heels, and the home-visit treatments that help most.
Ahmedabad winters are cool and dry, and many people notice tight skin, chapped lips and rough heels from December to February. A few daily habits help a lot, and some home-visit treatments help too.
Daily habits dermatologists recommend
- Keep baths and showers to five to ten minutes, with warm (not hot) water.
- Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Moisturise right after bathing, while skin is still damp, and again during the day. Creams and ointments hold moisture better than lotions; look for glycerin, hyaluronic acid or petrolatum.
- Use lip balm often.
- Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, even in winter.
- If your room feels very dry, run a humidifier while you sleep.
- Wear gloves for washing dishes and other wet work, and choose soft cotton next to your skin.

Home-visit treatments that help in winter
- Clean-up or facial. Gentle cleansing and massage leave dry, dull skin feeling smoother. Tell us if your skin feels tight or flaky. See clean-ups and facials at home.
- Pedicure. Soaking and scrubbing soften dry, rough heels. See manicure and pedicure at home.
- Manicure. Cuticle care for hands that dry out in winter.
- Hair spa. Helps dry, frizzy winter hair feel softer. See hair spa at home.
- Waxing in winter. Moisturise afterwards and skip a hot shower that day. Our waxing guide has the full aftercare.
When to see a doctor
If your skin cracks, bleeds, itches badly or does not improve with regular moisturiser, please see a dermatologist.
